Urgessa Bekabil is a PhD fellow at College of Business and Economics, Jimma. He obtained his Masters of science degree in Agricultural Economics from Wollega University (2013). His masters research examined the farmer’s perceptions and adaptation to climate change through conservation agriculture in Western Ethiopia. Mr. Urgessa Bekabil has published three high-quality papers in high impact journals.Mr. Bekabil has teaching and research experience. He has taught several economics and statistics courses including research methodology and econometrics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has expertise in a range of research methodologies including quantitative and mixed methods and has utilized them to generate high-quality evidence for those factors that affect adaptation to climate change and participation in conservation agriculture. Mr. Urgessa’s research area focuses on climate change, sustainable environment, research and development as well as economic development. He has been conducting reviews for Cogent Food & Agriculture, Cogent Business and Management, Innovation and Development, and Asian Journal of Business and Management. He is currently working on his PhD dissertation write-up.
Work Experiences
Senior Economics Lecturer
He has accumulated seven of experience in teaching economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His teaching philosophy revolves around creating an interactive and engaging learning environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity. He has successfully taught courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Advanced Econometrics, Advanced Research Methodology and others, receiving consistently positive feedback from students. The activities that I have been involved in are listed below.

Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
His roles comprised appraisals of non-governmental organization's projects, monitoring of their physical and financial performance, and conducting mid-term and final evaluations of projects performance. Activities performed by Mr. Bekbail were listed below
- Provided technical support to both local and international NGOs in project planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Facilitated experience-sharing sessions, especially between NGOs implementing in regional state and government organizations.
- Coordinated field-level project monitoring and evaluation activities by mobilizing regional sector bureaus.
Assistant Socio-Economics Researcher
He has assisted the Oromia Agricultural Research Institute in the preparation of research proposals, the search for funding, and the implementation of approved proposals. Activities performed by Mr. Bekbail were listed below.
- Prepared a research proposal that may solve socio-economic problems for smallholder farmers in West Oromia.
- Participated in searching for funds that may help the implementation of the reviewed research proposal.
- Implemented a research proposal approved by the Oromia Agricultural Research Institute.
- Published research findings at internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal publishers.
Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
He has participated in preparatio of annual plans, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as monitored and evaluated the physical and financial performance of governmental projects across the zone.
